With six softball players sporting a local connection on its roster, Canada won a silver medal at the Pan-American Championship in Puerto Rico.
Canada placed second in its group with a 6-1 won-lost record to qualify for the playoff round. They lost 8-2 to the U.S.A., then defeated Cuba 2-0 to qualify for the final, where lost 8-1 to the United States. Jen Yee of North Delta hit a solo homer against Cuba for the game-winning run.
Marina Demore of Richmond and Kelsey Haberl of Burnaby have a local connection, having played in the Surrey Storm rep program. Sara Hopwood of Richmond, Jocelyn Cater of Delta and Maple Ridge native Larissa Franklin, who have played for the White Rock Renegades, were also on the Canadian team.
