Trinity Western cross-country runners captured a pair of medals over the weekend.
Regan Yee won the Canada West gold medal in the women’s race while Declan White won bronze on the men’s side.
The Spartans were competing in Victoria on Sunday at Beacon Hill Park.
The race also doubled as the U Sports national championships, with Yee finishing fourth in the country and White was 12th overall.
TWU also came second on the women’s side and third on the men’s side in the team competition at the Canada West level.
Competing in her final cross-country race for the Spartans, Yee finished the eight-km race in 27:55, and her first-place finish marked the sixth time in the last seven years a TWU runner has taken top spot at the Canada West level.
“I took it out hard and had a fast pace to start with, there were four or five of us working together and at the six-kilometre mark I got dropped and then I was just hanging on until the end,” Yee said.
“Last year I came fifth, so I was hoping for better than that and I hit my goal.
“I would not have even considered this in my first year. To make it as a champion in my fifth year is incredible.”
Yee was also named a Canada West first team all-star for the second straight year, while her TWU teammates Jouen Chang, Mikaela Smart and Joanna Williams were second team selections.
White was named a Canada West first team all-star for the fifth straight year and was a U Sports second team all-Canadian.
He finished the 10-km race in 31:51.
TWU’s Caleb De Jong was also a Canada West first team all-star.
