This past Saturday night Western Speedway played host to the Nichol Marine Night at the Races, featuring the LORDCO Auto Parts Demo Series, Bombers, Mini Figure 8’s, Claimers, and a special exhibition from Richlock Rentals Capital Drift.
The main event of the evening was the demo cars and trucks, with Richard Morgan and Billy Stidston making up the front row for the start of the race. Stidston led early before getting tangled up with the lapped car of Tim Bunyan, taking him out of contention for the win.
With Stidston stopped in turn four, crowd favorite Wayne “The Train” Hart took command out in front of the field, pulling away from the rest of the pack. However, with just five laps to go and victory in sight, the left front tire let go, forcing Hart to pull into the pits and allowing Shawn Young to take the top spot. Young would go on to win the main event and extend the Young family’s domination of the Demo Series at Speedway.
Cody Young, Brandon Young, Craig Holfeld, and Wayne Hart rounded out the top five in that finishing order.
The next races at Western Speedway go June 30 and July 1 for the Used.ca Mid Season Championship, featuring the Wayne’s Trucking Winged Sprint Cars, AMCA Dwarf Cars, Galaxy Motors Stock Cars, Sooke Disposal Mini Stocks, and the Marlin Motors Hornets.
