The junior and senior girls volleyball teams challenged each other to a exhibition game to sharpen their skills as the regular season ends.
The junior girls are headed to Prince George to take part in the zones this weekend.
They earned their zones’ spot in play-downs last Friday against Williams Lake. The girls took the first trio of games, 25-10, 25-15 and 25-6, in the five game set, allowing them to forgo the last two.
The junior girls are heading into zones ranked sixth and hope to improve on that ranking.
“That is our goal for the weekend,” coach Corey Lougheed said.
“The girls have been working very hard in practice all season, and they have showed improvement in every aspect of their game. If we can bring the pieces together for our final event it should be a very good weekend for us.”
They face a challenge, though, with their first game against the number two ranked North Peace Secondary. Coach Lougheed predicts a fierce game; last time they met the games were close and the Quesnel girls have learned and improved from that experience.
“We feel our poor serving was the only thing that kept us from winning that match so we have worked hard for the last two weeks to make sure that doesn’t happen again,” Lougheed said.
The senior girls are still fighting for their entry into zones.
