Kerry Reed gives an update on local winter fishing.
Although fishing tourism on Kootenay Lake is way down, the main lake has still been producing lots of the usual two to four pound rainbows.
March was a pretty good month for fishing. The weather started out a bit miserable, but it seemed to turn around during the second half.
"After enjoying a nice month of February weather, we are now paying for it in March."
'Tis the season everyone, and winter fishing is here!
Lots of Rainbows between two and five pounds and a few Bull Trout from three to eight pounds in Kootenay Lake.
With a lot of tourists around to enjoy our local resource, Reel Adventures Sport Fishing guides did fairly well on Kootenay Lake.

February's warm weather brought lots of fishing activity.
We spent a lot of time on the lake throughout December and the results were similar to November.

We have been experimenting with lighter gear as well as fly reels and mooching reels to make the battles even more exciting.
With all the predictions from fisheries hailing this as the biggest run of salmon ever, we certainly didn’t see anything spectacular.
May was pretty good fishing. Lots of days with 10 to 15 fish to the boat.
The fishing remained slow for the month of March, however we did hook into some big fish, mostly Bull Trout.
December saw similar fishing to the previous months. However, the last couple of weeks have produced some big fish for us.
We saw some great fish for that month: Rainbow trout up to 22 Lbs. and dolly varden (bull trout) up to 16 Lbs. were being caught.
Well summer is finally here. With the forecast calling for more sunshine, we are getting a break from the rising water levels.
May was a decent month for weather, but an even better month for fishing.
