As a result of two newly announced pledges, Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation has reached $1.86 million in its campaign to help bring new doctors to the region.
A private donor has made a $500,000 commitment, while the North Surrey Lions intend to raise $110,000 in support of the Foundation’s 100 Days to Give campaign, which will purchase equipment for the new Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre.
The facility is located at 140 Street and Fraser Highway and will open to patients June 1.
Volunteers from the North Surrey Lions have launched “A Mile of Toonies,” in which the club will collect $110,000 – enough two-dollar coins to cover a mile – during a number of upcoming fundraising events.
“We can’t do this without help from others,” says North Surrey Lions president John Moralek. “Our members will be out in the community this year looking for support.”
The other gift is a $500,000 pledge by a donor who wishes to remain anonymous but decided to give in response to the $5-million donation made by B.C. entrepreneur Jim Pattison to initiate the campaign.
“This private donation was an incredibly pleasant surprise and a direct response to the challenge we have set to match Mr. Pattison’s donation,” says Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation President/CEO Jane Adams.
The Foundation’s 100 Days to Give campaign (http://100days.smhfoundation.com/) will help purchase innovative equipment to attract new doctors to the region.
Established in 1992, Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation has raised more than $55 million to purchase medical equipment, fund innovative programs, and support training and research.
