Annual career day prepares Kwantlen community for the future

University hosts networking event on March 5 at the Surrey campus.

Career Day at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is a free career and employment fair for all KPU students, alumni and faculty. For Manroop Johal, the event connected her with the right networks that would ultimately land her a job at TD Bank.

Johal, a KPU graduate with a BBA in human resources, took advantage of the career related resources and services available to her. She improved her resume and interviewing skills, and through Career Day, developed the skills needed to think like an employer.

Johal attended the workshops and career advising appointments offered to all KPU students. Taking feedback constructively, she applied her newly gained knowledge to her employment search. Johal also purchased student business cards, which is a service provided by Kwantlen Career Services.

“Think about it! One bad job application or resume from a KPU student can have a negative impact on the image of the student population to employers – should be a no-brainer to use these free resources while we can,” said Johal.

KPU’s next Career Day is March 5, 2013, at the Surrey Campus. It will take place in the main atrium from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Career Services is also providing Career Week Workshops the previous week from Feb. 25 to March 1. More than 40 high-profile employers such as BC Hydro, the City of Surrey and Free the Children will be in attendance, along with over 1,200 anticipated students.

KPU Career Services is dedicated to helping students and graduates find meaningful employment and expanding and improving their tools needed to land the perfect job.
