A number of events are taking place in the community for those involved in business

Schubert Centre hosting trade fair

The final Business After 4 Trade Fair of 2012 is set for Tuesday at Schubert Centre (3505 30th Avenue).

The event, co-presented by the Downtown Vernon Association and the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce, goes from 4 to 7 p.m. and will feature a dozen Vernon-area businesses and organizations displaying their products and services.

Confirmed for the fair are: Wayside, Rxtra Storage, Healthy Insights, Nature’s Fare Markets, Aberdeen Wellness Clinic, Valley First Credit Union, Grounds Guys Landscape Management, White House Mortgages, Grow Business Referral Group, Sun FM, Kindale Developmental Association and North Okanagan Employment Enhancement Society.

The cost is $5. Appetizers and beverages will be served.

Community Futures opens its doors

To celebrate small business week, Community Futures North Okanagan is hosting an open house Wednesday in Vernon.

The event goes from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Community Futures building (3105 33rd Street), and coincides with the official opening of the WorkBC Employment Services Centre.

Open house events will include meeting the staff at Community Futures, building tours, program and services info, a service provider showcase and a small business trade show.

George Duffy, Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce general manager, will present on new training funding for micro business. Duffy will discuss which companies are eligible, how they access the funding, and which training courses are available to them.

Kevin Poole, Vernon’s economic development officer, will present on the business expansion and retention program.

Program analysts have conducted nearly 500 interviews with Okanagan businesses, and Poole will elaborate on their findings.

Speed networking session on tap

The Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce is hosting a small business speed networking session Thursday at the Prestige Hotel.

The event goes from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and promises to be a fun evening of fast-paced action that allows  business owners to make connections with numerous potential clients or business partners within a 90-minute period.

Registration is a 5:15 p.m. and is open to all small businesses. The cost is $25 (plus tax).
