Business sessions offered in 100 Mile

The South Cariboo Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) is welcoming the local business community to two upcoming events

The South Cariboo Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) is welcoming the local business community to two upcoming events it has planned that feature some special guests.

Minister of State for Small Business Naomi Yamamoto will be the guest speaker for some round-table discussions at a luncheon in the South Cariboo Business Centre boardroom, 475 Birch Ave., on Oct. 9.

Intended to celebrate Small Business Week, SCCC members are encouraged to attend, with a $15 fee. Non-members are also welcome for a $25 fee, and both include lunch.

SCCC manager Angela Cole says seating is limited, so call her at 250-706-2044 to register as soon as possible if you wish to attend.

It’s a chance to meet and talk with Yamamoto, who was appointed to this role early last

month, and is also a member of the Cabinet Committee on Jobs and Skills Training.

Then local business owners and managers are invited to an informative presentation on Oct. 10.

The Business Development Bank Of Canada (BDC) Expand Your Reach breakfast session will discuss how the mining industry will impact local businesses.

Those who attend the complimentary presentation and continental breakfast at the Red Coach Inn, 7:30-9 a.m., will hear regional geologist Jim Britton speak on how businesses can be prepared for growth alongside the expanding local mining industry.

The deadline for registering for the free session has been extended to Oct. 6, by calling Cole at 250-706-2044.

She notes it is a good opportunity to learn about specific marketing strategies and business planning to help local businesses benefit from mining in the Cariboo corridor.

For more information, call the SCCC office at 395-6124 or e-mail to www.south cariboochamber.org.
