On May 25-26, I had the pleasure of enjoying the BC Chamber of Commerce AGM in Penticton. Wine tours aside, the AGM was a focused conference of policy debate, engaging speakers and valuable workshops.
I am proud to announce that for the first time the Mission Chamber forwarded policy resolutions to be vetted through the rigorous policy process. Both the Provincial Fraser River Flood Management and the Federal Fraser River Navigation Management were accepted unanimously by the more than 150 voting delegates from chambers and industry across B.C.
Both policies can be viewed on our website under “Influence.”
On June 7, we held our annual golf tournament. The “Swamp Tourney” coined by past president Cal Crawford, was certainly a test of endurance for even me, a seasoned golfer. It was great to see everyone enjoying themselves despite the rain. Congratulations to all our winners and I look forward to a drier day on the links next year.
Picnic in the Park is coming June 21. This is the District of Mission’s annual report to the business community. A long-standing event, this year will feature new CAO Ken Bjorgaard. I encourage you to come out and connect with him as well as the mayor, councillors and senior staff from city hall. Register online at www.missionchamber.bc.ca. I look forward to seeing you there!
