Representatives of the chamber and the municipality will meet with business owners and managers during a spring business walk event.
The walk will be held on Thursday, April 14, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Teams consisting of a Summerland Chamber of Commerce board member and a member of Summerland’s municipal council will be in the downtown and Rosedale Avenue area.
The first business walk event was held in October, when seven teams had in-person visits with more than 60 businesses.
Later that week, another 70 businesses participated in an online survey.
Christine Petkau, executive director of the chamber, said the business walk is a useful way to receive input from those within the business community.
She said the #discoverhome series of promotional videos for the community came about in part because of the last business walk, held in October.
During that walk, business representatives talked about the importance of local shopping, which is a factor in the video series.
She said the issue of business succession planning was also mentioned during the last business walk event.
As small business owners look to retire, there is concern about who will take over their businesses later.
“This is an issue that’s regional and national,” Petkau said. “It’s not just Summerland’s issue.”
As a result, chambers in the region are meeting together to discuss business succession.
“We’re looking to provide the tools that will help business owners sell their business or pass it on,” she said.
