Construction investment declines in first quarter

Investment in non-residential business construction declined 18 per cent in the first quarter of 2015

Investment in non-residential business construction declined 18 per cent in the first quarter of 2015, to $32 million, from the previous quarter, according to the Vancouver Regional Construction Association.

Spending on commercial buildings was down 8.5 per cent to $14.9 million, while industrial building investment slumped 12.6 per cent to $11.2 million.

Much of the overall decline was due to a 40 per cent decrease in “institutional-governmental building investment.”

While the numbers were down from the last quarter of 2014, they are still ahead of figures from the first half of last year.

Metro Vancouver, meanwhile, saw a slight rise in spending.
