Greater Vernon chamber ready for AGM discussion

B.C. Chamber of Commerce conference in Kelowna runs from today until Tuesday.

The Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce will represent the views of local businesses at the B.C. Chamber of Commerce annual general meeting.

The conference in Kelowna runs from today until Tuesday.

“We’ll be attending the event to ensure our local businesses’ views are understood and to help shape the B.C. chamber’s business advocacy agenda,” said Tracy Cobb Reeves, Greater chamber president,

The Greater Vernon chamber has joined with a number of other chambers in calling on the provincial government to do what it can to help small wineries and cideries that face a large property tax hike if they expand their alcohol related production operations.

“This is in essence a barrier to development”, said Dan Rogers, chamber general manager.

“A number of chambers believe that if there were tax incentives that offset the hike in property taxes that wineries and cideries face, the increase in economic activity would more than offset the cost of any tax credit.”
