B.C’s first Ronald McDonald Family Room is slated to open as part of the larger Surrey Memorial Hospital expansion project completing in 2014.
The room will provide a quiet rest area for family members of children admitted to the hospital for urgent medical care. It provides a small oasis of calm amidst what can be an intensely stressful situation for families.
“The Ronald McDonald Family Room© at Surrey Memorial Hospital is part of our ongoing commitment to children and families who find themselves in the difficult situation of caring for a hospitalized child, “said Richard Pass, CEO Ronald McDonald House BC & Yukon. “This small home away from home will provide families the opportunity to be together during emergency treatment of a child.”
The new Ronald McDonald Family Room at Surrey Memorial Hospital will include:
• Four overnight sleeping rooms with private washrooms
• Laundry facilities
• Kitchen and dining area
• Computers with internet access
• A comfortable lounge area
EllisDon Vice President David McFarlane presented a $100,000 gift to Ronald McDonald House BC earlier this month. “EllisDon is proud to be the builder of the new critical care tower at Surrey Memorial Hospital, and to take part in a project which will have a positive impact on Surrey families,” said Mr. McFarlane.“
Ronald McDonald House BC needs $700,000 to complete the project and depends on community support to make this project a reality. Members of the public can help by donating at www.rmhbc.ca.
