The “Under 40” members of the Greater Vancouver Home Builders Association (GVBHA) volunteers descended on a local home for the economically challenged and conducted a fix-up campaign.
The group undertook general maintenance and repairs of Jessica Place – 9883-140 Street in Surrey on May 31st. The GVHBA U40 cleaned up garden beds, trimmed trees, re-built decaying fences, painted the amenity room and pressure washed.
The Entre Nous Femmes Housing Society (ENF) provides economically disadvantaged persons with safe affordable housing at a subsidized rate. They have 345 housing units at 11 properties spread throughout Vancouver, Surrey and North Vancouver that provide accommodations to single parents and their children, families and seniors. ENF funds their ongoing operations through donations, which is becoming ever more important due to government funding cutbacks.
ENF started in 1984 by 3 women who wanted to improve their own lives and the lives of other single mothers and their children. They did this by creating safe, secure, affordable housing as a first step in creating stability and forward movement in life. Originally ENF was established to assist the needs of single parent families, but has grown to accommodate a larger diverse community.
Because funds are regularly used for basic necessities on the properties, often there is not enough money left over for basic upkeep.
