Contracts with 63 service providers to deliver targeted skills training programs across B.C. have been finalized.

Locally, the NexusBC Community Resource Centre Society will provide Job Readiness and Essential Skills Training.

It  includes three weeks of job readiness and two weeks of essential skills training, followed by four weeks of short-term training, four weeks of job placement and eight weeks of follow-up. It is focused on people needing additional supports such as immigrants, persons with disabilities and older workers.

Bowman Employment Services will offer Get Youth Working for Youth: The program provides three-months of entry-level job placements in construction, early-childhood assistant and cashier.

“B.C.’s growing economy is creating a high demand for skilled workers in our province,” said Eric Foster, Vernon-Monashee MLA.

“This funding will ensure that people from the Shuswap and North Okanagan will benefit from our growing economy,” added Greg Kyllo, Shuswap MLA.
