Mercedes latest to target Langley City

Luxury automobile dealership unveils plans for new sales centre in Langley

First it was BMW-Mini Cooper. Then Infinity and Audi joined the ranks of luxury automobile dealerships setting up shop in Langley City.

Now, a fourth high-end brand is gearing up to join them.

Mercedes Benz has unveiled plans for a 4,300 square metre sales centre at the corner of Glover Road and the Langley Bypass.

Unlike the other dealerships, however, Mercedes will not become a part of Anthem Properties’ Langley Auto Collection, locating instead on the north side of the Langley Bypass on a parcel of previously undeveloped land.

It is the same piece of property where a railway car promoting light rail in the Valley sat until recently.

On Monday, council gave first and second reading to a bylaw to rezone the land at 20801 Langley Bypass to accommodate the automotive retail development. According to City staff, Mercedes Benz has entered a long-term lease agreement with the Kwantlen First Nation, who own the property.

A representative speaking on behalf of  the Kwantlen people confirmed that the band owns the property, but declined to comment on any business dealings related to the land.

The new Mercedes Benz/Smart dealership is scheduled to open in 2013, while Infinity and Audi are expected to be up and running later this year.
