New and improved mall now one year away

Expanded Guildford Town Centre will be the largest regional shopping centre south of the Fraser River when it opens in August 2013.

On June 7, 2010, Guildford Town Centre began a $280-million redevelopment project. This week the project is just one year away from the grand opening of the new phase, which is scheduled for Aug. 14, 2013.

This redevelopment saw the opening of a brand new Walmart Supercentre on Oct. 28, 2011, along with part of the two level parkade. In July 2012 the balance of the parkade was opened and now offers over 1,700 parking stalls with easy access to both Walmart and the shopping centre from the upper level.

Currently, the existing Guildford Town Centre is being completely refurbished, including new floors, ceilings, additional escalators and a new elevator in the grand court that will include a water feature. This work will be completed by Christmas 2012.

Aug. 14, 2013 is the scheduled grand opening of the new phase, which includes 75 new stores and a new 965-seat food court. With the additional 200,000 square feet, Guildford town Centre will be largest regional shopping centre south of the Fraser River.

“Guildford Town Centre has been a part of the Surrey community for over 45 years,” says Peggy White, general manager at Guildford Town Centre. “With the rich history we have shared with our community, we are extremely excited to be a part of the bright future Surrey has to offer. Thanks to this project, Guildford will be better positioned than ever to face the competition and will surely continue to appeal to customers.”
