New investigative services officer for Surrey RCMP

Insp. Mandip Mann promoted to rank of superintendent and will oversee all of the detachment's investigative sections.

The Surrey RCMP has announced the promotion of Insp. Mandip “Manny” Mann, senior investigator of the Major Crime Section, to the rank of superintendent in the position of Investigative Services Officer.

In this new role, Supt. Mann will oversee all of Surrey detachment’s investigative sections, including: drugs, major crime, property crime, vulnerable persons and the Special Projects Investigation Enforcement Section.

Mann has been with the RCMP for more than 24 years and has done all of his service in the Lower Mainland region, with nine years spent in Surrey. After beginning his career on Surrey general duty, he quickly gravitated towards investigative services with a position in the Surrey Drug Section. His next 15 years were spent in investigative roles with the E Division Undercover Unit, North Vancouver RCMP General Investigation Section, and over seven years with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT). He was also a member of the Emergency Response Team. In 2011 he returned to Surrey detachment as a team commander in the Major Crime Section, followed by a promotion to his most recent role of Senior Investigator of Major Crime.

“We are very fortunate to have Supt. Manny Mann as the new leader of our Investigative Services Section. Manny has a broad base of experience inclusive of working as an undercover police officer, homicide investigator, and manager of numerous major crime investigations. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience in leading and managing complex police investigations,” says Surrey RCMP Officer in Charge, Chief Supt. Bill Fordy. “As the first RCMP superintendent in British Columbia of South Asian descent, he is well positioned to be an excellent role model for our youth and better connect the Surrey RCMP with Surrey’s significant South Asian community.”

Born and raised in B.C., Mann has lived in Surrey for more than 20 years and has raised his family here. As a minor hockey coach for 10 years and a past Cops for Cancer rider, Mann is committed to and engaged with his local community. He is also fluent in the Punjabi language.

“Ultimately, I joined the RCMP to help people and to put bad guys in jail – that’s still why I come to work every day,” says Mann. “I am honoured to take on this new role in investigative sServices. We have a fantastic team who are dedicated to solving crime and protecting our citizens, that I will very be proud to lead.”

Awards and Select Career Highlights for Supt. Manny Mann:

• 2001 – Commanding Officer’s Commendation for his role in solving a 1974 homicide.

• 2002 – Commanding Officer’s Certificate of Appreciation for his role in the solving of 22 homicides over a four-year period.

• 2011 – Received RCMP Long Service Medal for completing 20 years of service with good conduct.

• 2011 – Received the Officer in Charge IHIT Certificate of Recognition for Exceptional Service.

• 2012 – Received Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for significant contributions to community and Canada.

• 2013 – Played a significant role in the creation of Sophie’s Place Child Advocacy Centre, which provides specialized services to abused children in a child-friendly setting, and is a Steering Committee member.

• 2014- Played a major role in the expansion of the Domestic Violence Unit and addition of community-based victim services within Surrey detachment.
