Chilliwack welcomed a familiar business back to the downtown last week.

RBC Dominion Securities opened its new office in the Royal Bank building on Main and Princess Thursday, returning to a city it had called home in 1901.

The return was welcomed by Chilliwack Mayor Sharon Gaetz, who said the firm, which offers wealth management and financial planning advice, is another piece of the downtown’s growing vitality.

“I think you’re really going to like your new downtown as we get it going,” she told guests before cutting the ribbon to officially open the office.

Ray Mohan, vice-president and branch manager, admitted he had been under some pressure to reopen an RBC office in Chilliwack, particularly from staff like Maggie Reimer who live in the community.

Now, said Mohan, “We’re in Chilliwack and we’re here to stay.”

Reimer, a certified investment planner and investment advisor, said the move was a reflection of the RBC Dominion Securities’s confidence in the downtown as a place to do business.
