Surrey Board of Trade receives funding to build innovation in Surrey

A federal cash boost for the Surrey Board of Trade (SBOT) will see the showcasing of companies that harmonize research opportunities with post-secondary institutions.

The SBOT has received $5,000 funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Council of Canada (NSERC), a federal agency that works with companies to help find high-qualified people and advance Research & Development.

The funding will go to the SBOT’s Innovation Roundtable.

The SBOT Innovation Strategy aims to identify and showcase Surrey’s companies that create opportunities for research collaboration between industry and post-secondary communities.

These companies will also be a part of Surrey’s Global Innovation Summit in April, 2013 which includes an innovation awards gala.

It also proposes to promote dialogue and access to innovative resources, experience and expertise as part of a regional Asset Map in order to build and support further enhance innovative business activities that create higher paying jobs in the South Fraser Region.

“I am proud to make a special announcement on behalf of the Surrey Board of Trade’s Innovation Team,” said SBOT CEO Anita Huberman. “This team is promoting a regional innovation strategy as a means of attracting more businesses to Surrey and the surrounding South Fraser Region to generate higher paying jobs, said. This funding will begin in our effort to help entrepreneurs in bringing your new product or service to market.”

The Innovation Roundtable Series will be a monthly meeting scheduled for the last Monday of each month from 4-6 p.m. at the Surrey Board of Trade Conference Room (#101, 14439-104 Avenue) The dates are: Oct. 29, Nov. 26, Jan. 28, Feb. 25 and March 25.
