One of the Mission Springs Brewing Company’s custom beer labels took top honours in a national competition last weekend.
The Collectors of Canadian Brewery Advertising, Canada’s national organization for collectors of brewery memorabilia, named Olde Sailor’s India Pale Ale, as winner of the 2010 “Label of the Year” award.
The announcement was made at the Harbour Towers Hotel & Suites in Victoria, during the 32nd annual Collectors of Canadian Brewery Advertising convention. The award recognizes achievement in beer label design.
Attila Davalovsky, Mission Springs Brewing manager, was on-hand to accept the award.
“Mission Springs is extremely happy to receive this award. While we brew it and label it, our employees and managers make it successful. It is our tribute to shipwrecks and thirsty sailors everywhere,” he said.
Presented yearly since 1983, the “Label of the Year” award is chosen by Collectors of Canadian Brewery Advertising members across Canada and the United States.
The striking Olde Sailor’s label features an admiralty pattern anchor and the latitude and longitude of Mission Springs so the pub’s “thirsty sailors will always be able to sail home.”
The original concept for the Olde Sailor’s label was the result of a collective effort by three Mission Springs staffers: general manager Niki Reibin, brewmaster Tim Brown and kitchen manager Jill Anderson. Final design work was handled by Ron Fiedler of Barnstorm Creative Group, a Vancouver-based graphic arts firm.
