Study looks at Okanagan labour force trends

This is the Okanagan’s first labour force analysis and forecast.

The City of Vernon is working in partnership with a variety of agencies to facilitate the employment and akills training demand to 2020 study.

This is the Okanagan’s first labour force analysis and forecast.

“As one component of this study, R.A. Malatest and Associates is collecting labour market information between January and March by way of one-on-one survey interviews with more than HR managers from a cross-section of sectors throughout the Okanagan,” said Kevin Poole, Vernon’s economic development manager.

“The purpose of the survey is to establish an employment baseline and labour needs of the Okanagan.  The information will be used to forecast demand and supply of labour in the region from 2015 through 2019.”

Poole said that the information gathered will help local government and other agencies understand labour market trends, help inform policies and programs to respond to labour market gaps, and plan for education and skills training over the next five years.

For those HR managers that complete the survey, they may also enter their name in a draw for a chance to win one of two prizes:

n Return flights from Kelowna International Airport to Vancouver, one night accommodation and two tickets to a 2013/14 Canucks season game

n A spa package at Sparkling Hill Resort in Vernon.
