A Surrey woman who turned a creative outlet into a business in the running for a 2017 Mompreneur Award of Merit.
Duette Anderson – a nurse and mother of four who lives in the city’s Panorama neighbourhood – is among 22 finalists in the fourth-annual awards.
Winners are to be announced March 4 in Toronto, at the 2017 National Mompreneurs Conference.
According to a news release, Anderson was named a finalist by her peers and the business community.
She told Peace Arch News by email that she began working as an independent distributor of SendOutCards four years ago as both a creative outlet and to supplement her nursing income.
The company prints, stuffs, stamps and mails cards that are ordered and customized by the consumer online.
Anderson described her nomination as a “humbling honour.”
“It has given me a voice and a platform to create change, empower and inspire women to step into their greatness and allow their light to shine,” Anderson said in the release.
“I believe I have a great story to share with other women, I’m ready to share it with the world.”
The awards are presented by Mompreneur Showcase Group Inc and ParentsCanada Magazine. Winners are to be chosen by a panel of judges, based on criteria including track record of success, growth potential, revenue and inspiration to others.
