The awards keep coming in.
Adding to provincial journalism awards announced last month, The Surrey-North Delta Leader has now been recognized as one of the best community newspapers in Canada.
The Canadian Community Newspaper Association (CCNA) awarded The Leader second place as the Best All-Round Newspaper for papers with circulations of 25,000 and over. Alberta’s St. Albert Gazette took first place.
The Leader also won silver for Best Front Page, as did reporter/photographer Boaz Joseph for his feature series Hidden Health Care, about the critical, yet quiet, jobs at Surrey Memorial Hospital.
Reporter Jeff Nagel snagged first place in the Best Environmental Writing category for his series Oil and Water about the potential effects of twinning of Kinder Morgan Canada’s Trans Mountain Pipeline.
The national recognition adds to last month’s nominations in the B.C.-Yukon Community Newspaper Association’s Ma Murray competition, which will be announced April 20.
