A Vernon resident wants to share her passion for music.
Emerald Holt recently opened the Emerald School of Music.
“I first began piano lessons at age two-and-a-half and since then, I have dedicated 17 years to studying the piano, and all aspects of history and music theory,” she said.
“I have been teaching piano lessons in Vernon for six years and absolutely love the profession.”
Holt says music lessons are made to suit the individual’s level, from beginners to advanced.
“Various methods of instruction give students of all ages an appreciation, enjoyment, and abundant knowledge about music and the piano,” she said.
“Students are encouraged to complete repertoire of their preference to perform at recitals and performances.”
Students can also choose to take annual exams through the Royal Conservatory of Music and participate in music festivals.
At Emerald School of Music, Holt says learning an instrument is understood to be fun and fundamentally crucial to the development of a child’s brain and motor skills.
“Music affects the growth of a child’s brain academically, emotionally, physically and spiritually.”
Holt has taught children with learning challenges such as dyslexia, auditory processing disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
“I have also had experience working with the elderly, and people with severe arthritis and swelling of the hands, as well as people who suffer from strokes,” she said.
“I treat each of my students uniquely, and always encourage my students to try their best.”
