Abbotsford will be joining numerous cities around the world in a simultaneous event to promote environmental, social and political change along with global peace.
100 Thousand Poets for Change is taking place on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. at the Reach Gallery Museum, 32388 Veterans Way.
The event is a demonstration and celebration of poetry and spoken word.
Around the globe, there will be 600 events in 450 cities and 95 countries taking part. Canada has eighteen events.
“It will be an afternoon of poetry, spoken word, and music, as poets, musicians, artists, environmentalists, eco-advocates and humanitarians share the stage to express views concerning environmental challenges and sustainability through artistic expression,” said Stella Johnson, event organizer.
Poetry readings will be offered by Trevor Carolan, Paul Falardeau, Shelley Haggard and Robert Martens.
Spoken word presentations will be given by Ray Silver Sr., Patricia Ross, John Vissers, and more. Musical guests include Willis Taylor and Kat Wahamaa.
An open mic following the program will offer an opportunity for the public to share their views.
Everyone is welcome to the free community event.
