Locals can snap on their favourite fascinator, slip on the white gloves, and pull out the dress they’ve been saving for the Royal Ascot to sip tea with the Queen in honour of her 60th Royal Jubilee.
(And if you’re a boy, a bowler or top hat should do.)
On Saturday, The Mackie Lake House Foundation is hosting the tea on the lawn of its beautiful, provincially recognized heritage home on the shore of Kalamalka Lake.
Even her Royal Majesty will be making an appearance in the form of local actress Christine Pilgrim, who will mingle with the guests as they enjoy an English-style tea.
“It’s to be a family affair – with games for the children as well,” said Her Majesty.
In addition, a number of artisans will be selling their wares. They include Sheepish Grin Knit Company, Coldstream Creek Design, Purple Orchid Designs, Otter Lake Soapworks, Studio 410, mmmallows, Voiladesignx2 and others.
Musicians performing will include bagpiper Tom Skinner, violinists Amy and Hana Friedman, and local acoustic-rock band New Clear Sound.
Entrance to the grounds, which open at 1 p.m., is free.
Afternoon tea, with sittings at 2 p.m. or 3:30 p.m., is $20 per ticket, while high tea (featuring a wider selection of foods) will be served at 5 p.m. Tickets are $40 each.
