Art gallery presents new show

Three Agassiz artists are showcased in November's backroom exhibit

Three Agassiz artists will be featured in an upcoming exhibition at the Hope Arts Gallery throughout November.

Irene McKinnon, Linda Shephard and Sam Nelson are showcasing their paintings and woodwork in Interpretations and Organic.

McKinnon, a former high school teacher, has spent 50 years incorporating her love of nature into her paintings.

She also creates scientific and medical illustrations.

McKinnon only finished a few paintings a year while teaching, but semi-retirement has now given her extra time to paint and be inspired again.

Shephard didn’t start her career in fine arts until she moved to Agassiz in 2009.

After joining Monday Painters, she soon began placing her artwork in local shows.

Since then, Shephard’s work has appeared in several local exhibitions including the Monday Morning Art Show, Memorial Hall Art Show in Harrison Hot Springs, and at the Hope Arts Gallery.

The first time Nelson saw a demonstration of wood turning, he was hooked.

After trying it on his own, he joined the Fraser Valley Wood Turners Guild in Abbotsford.

There he met his mentor, Herb Reeve.

In the 10 years since then, Nelson has carved many unique pieces enhancing the natural beauty of the wood.

An artists reception with refreshements will be held on Nov. 5 from 1-4 p.m.

Hope Arts Gallery is located at 349 Fort St.
