What better way is there to spend a winter afternoon than to engage in your own hobby while socializing with friends. The “Art Drop In” weekly gathering is just that. Colleen Lyons says she started the group about two or three years ago. “There are people in Barriere who love to paint and want to improve their skill, and now we have up to 10 members who gather at the NT Volunteer Center in the Ridge every Friday afternoon to relax and to learn more about painting.”
Colleen is a member of the Yellowhead Artist Co-Operative, and notes, “In the beginning mostly beginners were in the group, but now members of the Co-op have joined, giving them time to just paint. When I am not able to attend, I can ask them to help others who are still learning; – they all like to see people start and enjoy painting.”
She says there is no competition among group members, the object is to enjoy their own approach to how and what they paint. Asked how much longer the group will meet Colleen stated, “We will come here until Spring arrives ,and then we go to a different art form, which will be gardening.”
