Arts briefs: what’s happening on the Alberni arts scene

A reading, Jane Austen workshops and more on the Alberni arts scene.

Gabriola author reads at library

Lynda A. Archer’s debut novel, Tears in the Grass, is a poignant story of three generations of Cree women—Elinor, Louise, and Alice—setting out to uncover a long-buried secret that will change all of their lives.

Archer, who holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing and lives on Gabriola Island, will be at the Port Alberni Library on Saturday, April 16 at 2 p.m. to read from Tears in the Grass.

Her novel is set in the prairies in the 1960s and confronts the trauma of residential schools and the long, dark shadow they cast over the present.

Jane Austen work continues

The Centennial Belles continue to offer workshops on creating Regency period costumes as they work up to a Guinness World Record attempt at the Jane Austen Festival July 8–9.
