Pirating for Global studies

Stelly’s Grade 11 Global Perspectives students will be holding a fundraiser at Star Cinema in Sidney on Thursday, March 12. There will be pirate themed activities starting at 8 p.m. and a showing of the Pirates of the Caribbean, The Curse of the Black Pearl at 9 p.m. Tickets are $6 and can be bought at the door or ordered at sarah.vangorp@gmail.com. All funds raised will be spent on next year’s Global project. Students do not use any money raised for travel or personal expenses.

 

Chamber choir at Trinity Church

The Vancouver Island Chamber Choir voices will ring out across Pat Bay on May 15. Holy Trinity, at the corner of West Saanich and Mills roads will host the choir for an afternoon of music starting at 2 p.m. Under the direction of Wade Noble, the choir will perform Dawn to Dusk, a choral journey through night and day. Admission is by donation. Call the office at 250-656-3232 for information.

 

CRD launches EcoTunes

The March 18 deadline is nearing for the Capital Regional District EcoTunes contest. The contest offers a chance for local, professional and amateur songwriters of all ages to celebrate the region’s landscapes and natural areas through music. Entrants may submit an original song via YouTube for a chance to win a $500 gift certificate with Larsen Music. The first prize winner will be invited to perform their song at the 2011 EcoStar Awards Ceremony on June 1.
