Gallery 7 Theatre and Performing Arts holds open auditions on Wednesday, Nov. 14 for its next production of the 2012/2013 “Theatre for Life!” season, Mary’s Wedding by Canadian playwright Stephen Massicotte.
The audition begins at 6:30 p.m. and is open to male and female performers ages 18 to 30.
On the night before her wedding, Mary dreams of love, war, what was and what could be. Her thoughts focus on her first love, Charlie, who she met by chance in a barn while seeking shelter from a prairie thunderstorm.
An innocent romance develops, only to be thwarted by the turbulent times of 1914. Separated by war, Charlie sends letters from the front, and a story of love, loss and healing emerges in a beautiful and poetic theatre experience written by one of Canada’s leading playwrights.
Mary’s Wedding debuted in 2002 and was enthusiastically received by both audiences and reviewers. Inspired by Tennyson’s Charge of the Light Brigade and The Lady of Shallot, the play was awarded the Betty Mitchel Award for Outstanding New Play in 2002 and the Gwen Pharis Ringwood Award for Outstanding New Publication.
“This is a very intimate love story set against the epic backdrop of the Great War,” says Gallery 7 Theatre’s artistic director Ken Hildebrandt. “Massicotte has masterfully crafted a beautiful and poetic play that explores how one picks up the pieces in the wake of loss and tragedy. Audiences are in for a stirring evening of theatre.”
Mary’s Wedding will feature one male and one female performer. Katherine Hill, who recently appeared in Gallery 7 Theatre’s production of Sense and Sensibility, will direct.
The show runs Jan. 18, 19, 24 -26, 31-Feb. 2 at the MEI Auditorium, 4081 Clearbrook Rd. Rehearsals will commence Nov. 19, and will occur on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 10 p.m. Two Saturday rehearsals will also be held.
Those interested in working behind the scenes in such areas as assistant stage management, sound operation, running crew and others are also invited to attend the audition. For more information, or to register for the audition, call 604-504-5940 or email info@gallery7theatre.com.
