The Vancouver island Children’s Bookfest will celebrate its 30th anniversary on May 7, bringing some of Canada’s most talented Canadian Children’s author/illustrators to the Diana Krall Plaza and the Nanaimo Convention Centre.

As part of the outreach of the Festival,  Sheree Fitch will perform at the Port Alberni Library on May 4 from 10 to 11 a.m.  Sheree Fitch has a unique voice which is reflected in her award-winning books and her animated story telling.  She was four times writer-in-residence in a healing and writing camp in Nunavut and has participated in international schools in Africa, China, Asia and Belize as well as countless schools in Canada.

Other artists presenting at bookfest include Leah Dorion whose illustrated books tell stories of the Metis Culture.  Julie Flett, winner of a BC Book Prize for Dolpins SOS, will talk about the story of young people rescuing a dolphin. And Marie Louise Gay, Quebec author of  over 60 books in French and English who has won many awards.

In addition to the author sessions, there will be story times and a puppet show for preschoolers.
