Back from his South African Unsettled Settler Tour and now home in Campbell River, roaming “SouthAfriCanadian” songwriter Roger Seldon is once again weathering fierce northern climates.
Guitar in hand, Seldon brings 30 years of songwriting to Nesbitt’s Island Coffee, next to the Tidemark Theatre on Friday afternoon March 15.
The music starts at 4 p.m. and ends in time for the 12-minute walk to the Maritime Heritage centre for the start of the Words on the Water Festival at 7:30 p.m. Songs will include selections from his collaborations with South African poets Marke Meyer, Keith Erasmus and Ruette Steenkamp and Islander Trish Rosborough.
From the days of closed doors and being asked to shut up for fear of security police eavesdropping, Seldon has been madly off in all directions, literally and figuratively.
This includes many solo performances in B.C. and more recently in Campbell River with his band OGRe MAJOR. In 2004 he released his own solo album The Beast Within.
In 2006 he release a mini-album 4-Songs, recorded in Vancouver, featuring songs from his longtime collaboration with virtuoso cellist Christie Staudhammer. Seldon is a regular feature each southern winter on the KwaZulu-Natal Hibiscus Coast music scene in South Africa.
