The sounds of Mexico will fill the air as a mariachi band returns to Summerland for an annual spring concert.

El Mariachi los Dorados will perform at Centre Stage Theatre on Saturday, March 25. The Summerland concert is the last stop on the band’s 10th annual Okanagan Valley tour.

Diego Kohl, who plays the guitarrón, a bass instrument, said the band members consider themselves ambassadors of Mexican music.

“We’re representing Mexico,” he said. “There’s such a strong cultural element.”

Kohl was born in Mexico and the band leader, Alex Alegria, is from the south of Mexico. “There’s an opportunity for us to showcase and embrace Mexican culture,” he said

He added that the band and the music have both been well received in communities around the province.

This year, the band has released a new CD, Los Dorados, which has all original mariachi songs.

The band has also added two trumpet players to its lineup this year. The two are also members of the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra.

The Summerland concert will be at Centre Stage Theatre on Saturday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Martin’s Flowers in Summerland.
