BC Culture Days is inviting artists to apply for the 2017 Ambassador and Awards Program.
Winners will receive $1,000 towards their role as a BC Culture Days ambassador in their community.
The Culture Days Ambassador acts as a spokesperson for BC Culture Days and as a community mobilizer throughout the summer leading up to the Culture Days weekend (Sept. 29 through Oct. 1). Culture Days is a national celebration of arts, culture, and heritage, inviting the public behind the scenes to discover the world of creative people in their community. Last year, 658 free activities were offered in 60 communities across the province, giving British Columbians an opportunity to take part in hands-on, interactive arts and cultural activities for the whole family.
The BC Culture Days ambassadors play an important role in engaging the community leading up to the Culture Days weekend. They are involved with outreach to artists and cultural organizations, promotion to the public, production of a Culture Days activity, and acting as a spokesperson for their arts and cultural community.
“My work helped people to look at what they do and see it as important and not isolated. Our culture here is varied, but Culture Days brings it all together under one sky,” said Lori Knorr, 2016 BC Culture Days ambassador from Smithers.
Applicants to the program must be individual artists residing in B.C. (amateur or professional), available to act as a spokesperson in their community during the months of August and September 2017, and able to present an activity over the Culture Days weekend. BC Culture Days ambassadors require strong communication skills, comfort with social media, and previous community engagement experience.
Eligible artists are encouraged to visit BC.CultureDays.ca to complete the online application form.
Submissions will be juried by members of the BC Culture Days steering committee. Winners will be awarded $1,000 (includes ambassador honorarium and activity budget). The deadline is March 31, 2017.
