Just one day from the other, two major concerts, featuring major Canadian talents, are taking place at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre in February.
On Monday it was announced that Summer of ‘69 rocker Bryan Adams is bringing his Bare Bones Tour to the centre Feb. 25.
The intimate and acoustic tour will kick off in Winnipeg Feb. 17 and will see Adams make his first ever appearances in multiple small cities across Western Canada, including Prince Albert, Sask., Trail and Vernon.
One of the world’s most highly acclaimed musicians whose career has spanned more than three decades, Adams is on the road more than 120 days a year playing rock n’ roll favorites (Run To You, 18 ‘Til I Die, It’s Only Love, Somebody, The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You) to sold- out audiences on six continents.
He continues to push those boundaries, becoming the first Westerner to play in both Pakistan and Vietnam. He has achieved No. 1 status in more than 40 countries.
Holder of the record for the longest running No. 1 hit in the history of the British charts (16 weeks), Adams has had four No. 1 singles as well as racked up an impressive array of Oscar and Golden Globe nominations, a Grammy award, American Music awards, Juno awards and ASCAP Film and Television Music awards.
He is a Companion of the Order of Canada, has been inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame as well as Canada’s Walk of Fame and he has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Adams has also been honoured with the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement.
The Bare Bones tour provides a rare opportunity for fans to see Adams as they’ve not seen him before.
Tickets for the Feb. 25 show go on sale Monday, Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. at the Ticket Seller box office (250-549-7469, www.ticketseller.ca) and cost $118.50 (limited two per order.)
With several European and Asian tours, multiple Canadian tours, a highly successful Public Television Special, and a recent five-month U.S. tour under his belt, award-winning guitar phenomenon Jesse Cook is making his way back to these parts.
He brings The Blue Guitar Tour to the Vernon Performing Arts Centre the day before Adams arrives, Feb. 24.
Released in September, 2012, The Blue Guitar Sessions is Cook’s eighth studio album, a captivating 14-track album recorded on a pair of vintage microphones, which he had exhaustively searched for to replicate the mood of recordings from the Miles Davis era.
“I wanted to make a record that was more personal,” said Cook in a press release. “Something intimate with more space to it than my previous work, the kind of music that I would want to listen to after midnight. I guess you could call it my grown-up album.”
The live show will include songs from Cook’s more familiar work as well as material from the new album.
Joining Cook on stage are the musicians that have become as familiar to fans as Cook himself: Chris Church, Rosendo “Chendy” Leon, Nicholas Hernandez and Dennis Mohammed.
“What I found is that the longer the five of us played together, we really gelled and had a sense of what our domains were,” said Cook. “Each member grew within their domain to make it something really big. We all learned to fill our space.”
