Another manifestation of the Shuswap’s growing place as a destination trail centre in the province is evident in From The Inside Out, a film to be shown Friday, Nov. 18 at the Salmar Classic.
“Cameos like the brilliant Shuswap trail and lake shots you’ll see in the film are one way we’re helping people discover the natural wonders that surround us here,” says Shuswap Trail Alliance co-ordinator, Phil McIntyre-Paul. “It’s a reminder that we live in a place worth discovering – and protecting.”
Since 2005, Trail Alliance advocates from every community in the Shuswap have been working together to grow the region as an active destination trails centre with an emphasis on the need to create, protect and promote enjoyment of the area’s natural surroundings.
Since hosting the Provincial Mountain Bike Trail Symposium in 2008, the Shuswap Trail Alliance has worked with Shuswap Tourism to establish the region as a partner in the Provincial Mountain Bike Tourism strategy.
The relationship has put the Shuswap’s growing trail system on the map alongside centres like Whistler, Rossland and Fernie, and on the provincial mountain bike website (www.mountainbikingbc.ca).
Last year the Shuswap was featured in the television mountain bike travel log, The Ride Guide, and has been included in provincial and national marketing initiatives.
The fall issue of BC Magazine includes an eight-page article that mentions the new trail route-building project that is currently underway. An online copy of the article is available at www.bcmag.ca.
“You’ll see everything we love about our home – lake, sun, beautiful country – but you’ll also see it through the experience of one of the planet’s most well-known mountain bike riders – Matt Hunter,” says McIntyre-Paul of Friday’s film and the incredible partnerships and hard work that went into the making of it. “Matt wanted to feature the lifestyle aspects of the sport unique to the Shuswap.”
“For those of you who have been following the Trail Alliance and the work the group does, you are fully aware of the benefits to our community,” says Shuswap Tourism marketing co-ordinator, Wendy Byhre, who notes the public is being asked to help by attending Friday’s fundraising film.
Proceeds of the event will go directly to the Trail Alliance and their trail-building initiatives.
