The Campbell River Art Gallery is offering $1000 of prizes across five categories for works selected to appear in their second annual Wearable Art Fashion Show.

The call for submissions is on now and the deadline for proposals is June 10. Your submission should include a written description of your piece(s), a short bio and sketches or photos of up to three entries. What we want to see is an expression of creativity, imagination, and an innovative use of materials and construction. We’re also looking for a WOW factor that gives the audience a whole new concept of the role of art.

Where does your artists’ vision take you when you bust out of conventional notions of costume design or beautifully fashioned clothing, and into the no-holds-barred realm of art? Is there some concept or theme you’d like to explore in a new way? Do you have an eye for design and construction or a knack with raw materials be it textiles, plastics, flora, paper, or metal?

The materials you choose may be textile-based, but don’t have to be. There’s been amazing wearable art pieces constructed of licorice, teabags, kelp, balloons, and chopsticks.

The categories of awards include Audience Choice, Best of Show, Best Use of Recycled Materials, Best Performance, and Ethnic Expression.  A choreographer will be available to shape the modeling/performance of the pieces on the evening of the show. Models/dancers should be arranged by the artists. The entry fee is $25 and entry is juried.
