Evergreen rocker Jo Burt is becoming a familiar sight in these parts.

The former touring bassist for Black Sabbath (1987 to ‘88), as well as guitarist for famed British artists such as the late Freddie Mercury, The Troggs, Bob Geldof, Sweet and many others, is returning to B.C. after performing a number of dates here last summer.

Known to play southern-style rock with an English accent, Burt is bringing his band, The Jo Burt Experience, to Western Canada for a quick two-week spring tour before heading back to the U.K. to finish up work on his most recent album.

North Okanagan dates include the Okanagan College Vernon campus lecture theatre March 29, and Lorenzo’s Café in Ashton Creek March 30.

“I am absolutely buzzing with the reaction we have been getting this summer,” said Burt during his appearances here last year. “Everyone seems to love the new material combined with some old favourites that we throw in. The band is really tight and everyone is on top form.

“I can’t wait to return to Canada… It’s gonna rock!”

Burt’s recent album of new songs is being recorded by Chris Kimsey (Rolling Stones, Duran Duran, Peter Frampton, INXS) at the famed Olympic Studios in London, and is poised to offer an exciting compilation of new tunes with many high profile guests.

Audiences can expect to hear some of those songs as Burt premieres the new material on his spring tour, which ends April 6 with a performance at the Kelowna Community Theatre.

Upon completion of the new disc, Burt and the band will be returning to Western Canada for festival and club dates throughout July and August before returning to perform in the U.K. and Europe.

Joining Burt in his Experience is guitarist Dzal Martin, who has played with The Equals, Terry Reid, Tom Robinson, Van Morrison, Meatloaf, Box of Frogs, among others.

Burt’s two female backup singers, Kathy and Antonia, will also be performing along with B.C. musicians Barry Lamb on bass, guitarist Paul May, and Vernon’s own Dan Oldfield on drums.

Tickets for the show at the Vernon campus of Okanagan College are $20, available at the Ticket Seller, 549-7469, www.ticketseller.ca.

Cover for the Lorenzo’s show is $15. Call 250-838-6700 for reservations.
