Broadway and opera centre stage in Surrey

Family-friendly concert presented by Vancouver Opera takes place Jan. 25.

It was exactly a year ago that Vancouver Opera brought its first all-ages opera to the Surrey stage.

This weekend the company is returning, this time gracing the new Surrey Centre Stage (at Surrey City Hall) with a family-friendly concert.

Called Opera and Broadway Take Centre Stage!, the show will feature selections from the world’s most famous operas, including Carmen, La boheme and The Marriage of Figaro, as well as numbers from Broadway hits such as West Side Story, Sweeney Todd and My Fair Lady.

Like last year, the 90-minute concert will spotlight participants in the Vancouver Opera’s Yulanda M. Faris Young Artists program. This year’s performers include mezzo-soprano Laurelle Jade Froese, soprano Caitlin Wood, tenor Rocco Rupolo and baritone Zachary Read, accompanied by pianist Kimberley-Ann Bartczak.

The concert takes place Saturday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at Surrey Centre Stage, 13450 104 Ave.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for seniors and students, available at tickets.surrey.ca or by calling 604-501-5566.
