Calendar features local barns

Armstrong photographer Cyndy Sturdy shares her love of old North Okanagan barns in a new calendar for 2014

Armstrong resident Cyndy Sturdy has just released a new calendar entitled, Broke Down Barns of the North Okanagan.

Many residents of  the North Okanagan may well find their own barn representing a month in 2014.

All of the photographs were taken by Sturdy over the past 10 years as she lamented the loss of old barns.

“I’ve always loved barns since I was a girl growing up in Alberta,” she said.

“I have memories of discovering a new batch of kittens in the hay loft, a nest of chicken eggs in the mangers, small mouse houses with baby mice, watching swallows build nests, have babies and leave; and resting my forehead on a milk cow’s warm belly while I milked them.

“I fell in love with the old barns in the Okanagan, and wanted to get as many pictures as I could before the barns are gone.”

The calendars are available at the Brown Derby Café in Armstrong, or contact Sturdy at 250-546-3613.
