Cellist joins piano duo for an inspiring morning concert

Entrancing sounds of piano will be complimented with the rich, captivating melodies of the cello for a special morning performance of classical music at the Cultural Centre on Nov. 18.

The Bergmann Duo and cellist Beth Root Sandvoss will come together to perform a concert which will include a variety of cello repertoire favourites and Blue Autumn, an enchanting piece written by Marcel Bergmann in 2006 especially for Sandvoss.

The talented and accomplished Bergmann Duo, compromised of international pianists and married couple Elizabeth and Marcel Bergmann, met at Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, Germany where they both studied, and have performed across Europe and North America. The duo has won first prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Caltanissetta, Italy and were honoured at the fourth Murray Dranoff International Two Piano Competition. When the two aren’t busy performing, they work as directors at the Langley Community Music School and are the artistic directors of the non-profit arts organization White Rock Concerts.

Sandvoss has been a member of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Victoria String Quartet, and is a founding member of award-winning group the Land’s End Ensemble. She has studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music and is now a resident of Calgary, Alberta where she is a member of the UCalgary String Quartet at the University of Calgary. Sandvoss has collaborated with a variety of artists including Ian Swenson, Barry Shiffman, James Campbell, Francois Houle and Linda Wang, and has performed on WERN Madison public radio, RTHK Radio Hong Kong, and CBC Radio.

With coffee, tea and refreshments provided, the concert is the perfect way to spend an autumn morning.

Blue Autumn is the second of four morning concerts featuring the Bergmann Duo as part of the Chilliwack Arts and Cultural Centre Society’s 2016/2017 Classical Music Series.

It takes place Nov. 18 at 10:30 a.m. in the Rotary Hall Studio Theatre.
