You’ll want to bring your dancing shoes, lawn chairs and picnic blankets when two popular local acts take the stage next week for the Downtown Vernon Association’s ongoing summer concert series.
Singer-guitarist-loop pedal goddess Tanya Lipscomb performs for the next Jammin’ in Justice at Justice Park, located across 27th Street from the Vernon courthouse, July 13.
This event takes place every Wednesday from noon to 1:30 p.m. until Aug. 24.
“We’ve got some great performances lined up and it is sure to be amazing summer with music, friends and family in the park. We hope to see you there this summer,” said Dory Geelkerken, with the DVA.
Raised in the Ottawa Valley and now living in Vernon, Lipscomb’s spicy stage presence is marked with exuberance and excitement. Her playing and rhythm is consistently solid and her three-octave voice sways from rich, deep and powerful, to soft, subtle and sensuous.
Lipscomb has been performing for audiences for more than 20 years and has won three awards from the Calgary Folk Festival Songwriting Competition, including The Arusha Song for Social Justice (2009), Best Live Performance (2008) and Best Lyrics (2005).
With the ability to weave a tale, along with fresh, crisp lyrics, stage charisma and charm, she has also won awards with the Jasper Folk Festival biannual competition (2003 and 2005) for best live performance.
Vernon’s longest-running band The Young’uns will have everyone up on their feet when they play the next Civic Sounds at Civic Plaza, in front of the museum, July 14 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Widely known as one of the most sought after bands in the B.C. Interior and Okanagan,, The Young’uns have also played at many venues and events all across Canada, and even in the U.S.
Their extensive setlist includes everything from classic rock to current top 40 pop hits, funk, country, reggae, metal, blues, punk rock, and the list goes on…
Civic Sounds continues every Thursday until Aug. 25.
“This year our Eat to The Beat promotion will be activated. This means that we will have a food or drink vendor every week at the concerts throughout the summer,” said Geelkerken.
