Dancer gets high honour

Elena Skalik, a student at Kathy Mascia School of Dance, is the winner of the 2015 Junior Tap Bursary.

Avril Owen, who is an Association of International Dance Teachers examiner from South Africa, chose Skalik as the winner from all the students examined in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Vancouver Island.

Skalik is also working towards taking her next set of A.I.D.T. exams in tap and jazz, along with her fellow students from the studio. There will be a total of 40 exam entrants taking their tap and jazz exams from the Kathy Mascia School of Dance.

This year, Margie Wells from Johannesburg, South Africa, will be their examiner. Wells will be in Canada for the month of June examining various studios who teach the A.I.D.T. syllabus, which is a worldwide recognized Association.

You can see Skalik and all the other talented studio dancers perform at the Kathy Mascia School of Dance year-end recital, Stars of Tomorrow 2016, a trip around the world. This will be held at the Tidemark Theatre this Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased at the Tidemark Theatre box office or through their website at: tickets@tidemark.com
