Langley Fine Arts School is welcoming Mike Garson, David Bowie’s longtime piano player, as the first speaker and performer in the 2017 Arts Matter Lecture Series.
Taking place at the Chief Sepass Theatre on March 2 at 7 p.m., the evening will be a combination of music, dance and spoken word.
Garson will share stories about his life and why “arts matter,” along with solo performances and collaboration pieces with LFAS students.
And to kick off Music Therapy Awareness month in Canada, Garson, along with the LFAS Orchestra, will also perform music from his Symphonic Suite for Healing, a project written in 2014 with patients suffering from various disorders and ailments.
Garson was Bowie’s longest and most frequent band member, but has also worked with numerous other musicians, including Sting, No Doubt, Nine Inch Nails and The Smashing Pumpkins.
He has composed more than 5,000 pieces of music through his career in all styles of music, ranging from jazz to classical to pop.
Tickets for the show are available online at www.mikegarsonartsmatter.brownpapertickets.com.
