Doc Walker, Road Hammers to play Kal Tire Place

Country-rock acts Doc Walker, The Road Hammers, and Blackjack Billy are in Vernon Dec. 13 for the Bands on the Run Tour.

Two Canadian country-rock acts and one American “redneck rock” band are about to have boots stomping in Kal Tire Place.

Doc Walker, The Road Hammers, and Blackjack Billy are in Vernon Dec. 13 for the Bands on the Run Tour.

Hailing from Portage La Prairie, Man., Doc Walker have had more than 20 top 10 singles on the Canadian country music charts.

Featuring main members Chris Thorsteinson (vocals, electric guitar) and Dave Wasyliw (acoustic guitar), Doc Walker has received multiple Canadian Country Music Awards, including Fans’s Choice, Group or Duo of the Year, CMT Video of the Year, Single of the Year, and Country Music Program or Special of the Year.

The band has also been nominated for several Juno Awards for Country Album of the Year, including a win in 2009 for Beautiful Life.

Doc Walker has just released its eighth full-length album, which includes the Top 10 hit Put It Into Drive, and latest single Shake It Like It’s Saturday Night.

Consisting of main members Jason McCoy, Clayton Bellamy, and Chris Byrne, The Road Hammers play a blend of country, southern rock and blues, and sing songs of maverick culture and the open road.

The band has recorded a charged mix of truckin’ classics and new originals, including Girl On The Billboard, East Bound and Down, Overdrive, Keep on Truckin, and the band’s autobiographical flagship anthem I’m A Road Hammer.

The Road Hammer’s new album, Wheels, featuring singles Mud and Get On Down The Road, was released in June.

Based in Nashville, Tenn., country rock act Blackjack Billy is composed of Rob Blackledge (vocals, guitar), Noll Billings (vocals), Jeff Coplan (electric guitar), Patrick Cornell (bass guitar) and Brad Cummings (drums).

The boys describe their music as “redneck rock,” and debut single, The Booze Cruise, was independently released in March 2013.

Their new single Got a Feeling, is out now on iTunes and all digital outlets.
