From Copperhead Road to the Okanagan Valley, legendary American singer-songwriter Steve Earle is about to travel the long, twisting highway to Vernon for a one-night only performance.
Tickets go on sale Monday to see the three-time Grammy Award winner, known for his rock, folk, and Texas country music, who will give an intimate solo acoustic performance at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre June 2.
A 14-time Grammy nominee, Earle began his career in 1986 with the album, Guitar Town, which went platinum. He has since released 13 other studio albums, including his most recent entitled, I’ll Never Get Out of this World Alive. Released in the spring of 2011, the album was produced by the legendary T-Bone Burnett, and named after a Hank Williams song.
Earle’s work reflects a wide range of styles, including roots rock, bluegrass, folk and country. He, along with his labels, has released six live albums and seven compilation albums, 23 singles and 13 music videos. Many of his singles are instantly recognized by music fans everywhere because they include Copperhead Road, Hillbilly Highway, Guitar Town, and Nowhere Road.
Since Earle’s emergence as a performer, his songs have been covered by various well-known artists, including Joan Baez, The Pretenders, The Proclaimers, The Highwaymen, Waylon Jennings, Emmylou Harris, Percy Sledge, Johnny Cash, Travis Tritt, and many others.
Earle has also performed with an impressive list of people including Sheryl Crow, Emmylou Harris, Chris Hillman, Lucinda Williams, the Indigo Girls, The Pogues, the Del McCoury Band, Allison Moorer, and a host of others.
Over the years Earle’s songs have appeared in many major motion pictures and television including Dead Man Walking, The Horse Whisperer, You Can Count on Me, Moonshiners, Friday Night Lights, Talladega Nights, Brokeback Mountain, The Rookie, Treme, and Bridge to Terabithia just to name a few.
Earle is not only a talented singer-songwriter, but is an author, actor, and playwright who plays guitar, mandolin, harmonica, banjo, bouzouki, and bass. This show will highlight all of those talents as it’s billed as “Steve Earle: Solo and Acoustic.”
