Join the artists at UrbanScreen as the Longing and Forgetting artwork becomes interactive Thursday night (April 24) at 8:30 p.m.
Video characters inhabit the west wall of Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre, climbing the wall, sitting on window ledges, and looking out towards the passing SkyTrain in Matthew Gingold, Thecla Schiphorst and Philippe Pasquier’s new artwork.
The work runs as a generative video until May 11, and the interactive artwork, where mobile devices control the characters’ movement, will be demonstrated Thursday.
The free public event is for those interested in meeting the artists, and taking part to use a mobile device to activate the artwork characters to climb, leap, and maneuver on the wall of Chuck Bailey. Pasquier will provide live music, and refreshments will be served.
Imagined by artists and built by the City, Surrey’s UrbanScreen is Canada’s largest non-commercial outdoor urban screen dedicated to presenting digital and interactive art. UrbanScreen is a satellite venue of the Surrey Art Gallery and is located on the west wall of Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre in City Centre. The venue can be viewed from SkyTrain, between Gateway and Surrey Central stations. Exhibitions begin 30 minutes after sunset, and end at midnight.
